Ofsted registration and consultancy
Support to establish, manage and improve children’s social care services.
Children’s safety, wellbeing and progress should be central to how services are organised and managed.
We support children’s homes and supported accommodation providers with registration preparation, leadership mentoring, safeguarding, quality monitoring and service improvement.
Our work reflects the setting and the requirements relevant to it.

Registration support
Support can include:
- Initial readiness reviews.
- Registration planning and application guidance.
- Statement of Purpose development.
- Supporting policies and procedures.
- Workforce planning documents.
- Location and premises risk assessment documentation.
- Preparation for relevant registration interviews and visits.
- Identification and tracking of outstanding actions.
Mentoring and leadership support
We work with managers and provider representatives to strengthen their understanding of their roles and develop effective oversight.
Support can focus on leadership, decision-making, staff supervision, safeguarding, recording, quality monitoring and implementing improvements.
Safeguarding and quality
We help providers review how safeguarding arrangements operate in practice, examine records and identify where management action is needed.
Quality reviews can cover support or care planning, risk assessments, workforce records, incidents, complaints, children’s feedback and governance.
Inspection preparation and improvement
We can help you review evidence, prepare staff and managers, and address gaps before inspection.
Following an inspection, we can support improvement planning, organise evidence of progress and help managers implement agreed actions.
This includes services judged Requires improvement to be good or Inadequate, where we help managers respond to the findings and show progress before the next inspection. More on improvement support.
Quality review support
We can support the preparation of service-specific quality reviews, including:
- Regulation 45 quality of care reviews for children’s homes.
- Regulation 32 quality of support reviews for supported accommodation.
- Action plans and progress tracking in response to Regulation 44 independent person reports for children’s homes.
The registered person retains responsibility for the review and any required submission.
Children’s homes and supported accommodation have different requirements. We agree the applicable framework and scope before work begins. Ofsted makes all registration and inspection decisions.
